Labuan MP’s power abuse case postponed to Oct 17

Labuan MP Rozman Isli is accused of abusing his position as deputy chairman of the Labuan Port Authority to obtain a contract for a company in which his father and younger brother have an interest in.

The hearing of Labuan MP Rozman Isli’s case on a charge of abusing his position as deputy chairman of the Labuan Port Authority has been postponed to Oct 17.

Rozman’s lawyer, Rafique Rashid Ali, told reporters the hearing had been scheduled to resume today, but sessions court judge Rozina Ayob was on emergency leave.

He said the case came up for mention before judge Azura Alwi today.

Rozman, 57, is charged with using his position, as an official of a public body, to obtain gratification in the form of an employment contract as the operator of Dermaga Merdeka Pelabuhan Labuan for LLPM, in which his father and younger brother have an interest in.

The offence was allegedly committed at the transport ministry in Putrajaya between 2.30pm and 5.30pm on March 21, 2018.

He is charged under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act punishable under Section 24(1) of the same Act, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000 whichever is higher, if convicted

Rafique and deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Feisal Azmi informed the court that both parties had agreed on Oct 17 and 18 as the new trial dates.
