Penang PH to discuss election seats on Wednesday

State PH leader Chow Kon Yeow says the "federal level" willl decide if state assembly elections should be held simultaneously with a general election.

Penang PH leader Chow Kon Yeow said the selection of election candidates would depend on the number of seats to be contested.
GEORGE TOWN:
Pakatan Harapan leaders in Penang will hold discussions on Wednesday on the distribution of seats among component parties for the general election.

The discussions would also be on the selection of election candidates.

Among the considerations would be the number of seats to be contested and the list of new candidates and sitting assembly members, Bernama reported.

Penang PH chief Chow Kon Yeow said a decision on whether the state assembly would be dissolved when Parliament is prorogued will be left to the “federal level”.

Some state governments have stated they did not wish to hold state assembly elections simultaneously if a general election is called this year, especially during the monsoon season.

“We (the Penang state government) need to refer it to the federal level for that decision,” he added.

Chow, who is also Penang chief minister, had said two weeks ago that the state legislative assembly might not be dissolved if a general election is held during the monsoon season.
