People’s interest, not power, should be priority, Umno told

Bersatu deputy head Ahmad Faizal Azumu says other factors such as the weather, preparedness of the security forces and expenditure should also be considered if GE15 is held this year.

Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said if the six states ruled by PAS and Pakatan Harapan do not hold their state polls at the same time as GE15, it would be costly for the government.
PUTRAJAYA:
Bersatu wants the Umno leadership to consider the people’s interest before making any decision to dissolve Parliament to pave the way for the next general election (GE15).

Its deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said Umno should not focus solely on efforts to gain power but also pay heed to other factors such as the weather, preparedness of security forces and national expenditure if GE15 is held this year.

“Bersatu wants Putrajaya to focus on the preparedness of the government to hold GE15. Are there adequate police personnel, and if six states are not having state elections this year, would it raise the country’s expenditure?

“Such matters need to be taken seriously, because we should not only focus on getting power but the interests of the people must be the priority,” he told reporters after a sports event today.

He said this when asked to comment on the decision by the Umno Supreme Council which wants Parliament to be dissolved soon to enable GE15 to be held this year.

When asked about Bersatu’s preparations for GE15, Faizal said the party is ready to work closely with Perikatan Nasional partners to win and establish a stable government and provide good services to the people.
