“I’m so relieved and grateful. Finally, my prayers have been answered, not just my own (prayers) but also that of other victims,” Farah Azuin Abdul Razak told FMT.
Yesterday, Farah, 23, expressed disappointment that the authorities had not taken action against the lecturer accused of sexually harassing her over a year ago.
She said she had not received any updates from the police or UiTM although the lecturer had filed a lawsuit against her on Sept 6 for allegedly exposing his private life and identifying the institution.
Farah, who graduated with a management and business diploma, denied the lecturer’s allegations, saying that his identity had been exposed by netizens. She said the lawsuit was aimed at intimidating her after she turned down RM20,000 to “close” the case.
.
Following FMT’s report yesterday, UiTM said it took the sexual harassment allegations against the lecturer seriously and had conducted an internal investigation.
In a statement, it said it had immediately terminated the service of the lecturer after interrogation and internal investigation procedures were completed and discussed by its disciplinary committee.
Farah said she hoped what happened will serve as a lesson for all, from students to educators.
“As students, we trust our lecturers to educate and protect us. Don’t betray our trust and lead us to believe that our education institutions are not safe,” she said.
She advised others to speak up should they face a similar situation, adding that many will come forward to offer help to victims.
Farah had lodged a police report against the lecturer in Tangkak, Johor, on June 2, 2021, and handed over recordings of telephone conversations she had with him.
She had alleged that the lecturer had called her at 12.30am on the same date to do a survey about sex and had asked her to join him to indulge in self pleasure.
Tangkak police chief Fadhil Minhat said police had also recorded statements from several others based on Farah’s report. He said the case had been referred to the Bukit Aman criminal investigation department’s investigation and legal division.
On Sept 9, Bukit Aman told FMT the investigation paper on the lecturer had been returned to the Tangkak police for “further investigation”.
Tangkak police told FMT today they had completed their probe and the investigation paper had been sent to the Johor police headquarters.
