MBSA denies mayor detained by MACC in probe on tenders

Shah Alam City Council says Zamani Ahmad Mansor was called to assist an investigation on Wednesday but returned to work yesterday.

The media reported that MACC has uncovered a cartel believed to be monopolising project tenders at the Shah Alam City Council.
SHAH ALAM:
The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) today refuted claims that mayor Zamani Ahmad Mansor was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over an investigation into tenders for projects in the city.

MBSA said Zamani was only called in by MACC on Wednesday to assist in the probe.

“The Shah Alam mayor returned to work as usual yesterday. MBSA would also like to emphasise that it is always prepared to extend its cooperation in any investigation by MACC,” it said in a statement.

Yesterday, the media reported that MACC had uncovered a cartel believed to be monopolising project tenders at MBSA following a raid on its office last Sunday.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said nine individuals, including several MBSA staff and a senior officer, had been arrested to assist in the investigation thus far.
