PETALING JAYA:
A Kelantan executive councillor has defended Bachok MP Nik Abduh Nik Aziz for requesting the Kota Bharu municipal council’s (MPKB) services for the weddings of his children, which were held simultaneously.

Housing, health and local government committee chairman Dr Izani Husin said Nik Abduh did not commit any abuse of power as he went through the proper procedure in requesting for the council’s assistance.

He said MPKB would evaluate every application made by any party before deciding whether to approve it.

“If it is approved, a fee will be charged. That’s the normal procedure,” he told FMT.

Izani also said most of the preparations for the weddings, such as setting up tents, were done on Nik Abduh’s accord and not by MPKB.

However, he said not all applications were approved by MPKB president Rosnazli Amin.

Nik Abduh had drawn brickbats after he wrote to MPKB seeking “cooperation” to provide traffic control, waste management services, tables, chairs and flower decorations for the weddings of his daughter and son, which took place on Saturday.

Rosnazli had confirmed receiving the request, but did not say whether they had approved it or if any payment had been made by Nik Abduh.

The request prompted DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng to urge the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the PAS MP for abuse of power.

Yesterday, Nik Abduh said the event was also a “feast for the people” and a thanksgiving event for his extended family, with between 8,000 to 10,000 guests in attendance.
