In a statement issued by the Royal Press Office, Sultan Ibrahim said he was “very pleased” with the duo’s achievements.
“We didn’t only create history on the national stage with Sukma,” he said, referring to Johor’s victory in the Malaysia Games (Sukma), “but my sons also flew the Johor flag high in the international arena”.
The Tunku Panglima of Johor, Tunku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim, clinched the championship at the Okayama Circuit in Japan, alongside his partner Nick Foster and their team, Triple Eight Race Engineering.
The team also triumphed in the overall GT3 Teams Championships.
Sultan Ibrahim’s other son, Tunku Putera of Johor, Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim, also managed to land a spot in the GT3 Pro-Am Drivers standings, securing 5th place, alongside partner Jazeman Jaafar, in his debut season.
“I would like to congratulate them both on a job well done this season. To Iman (Tunku Panglima), keep up the good work and to Boo (Tunku Putera), try and overtake your brother next season,” Sultan Ibrahim said.
