PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the party rejects the labelling of any Malay-Muslim grouping as being “the main enemy” especially when it involves those who are part of the government.
He did not name anyone in his statement issued this evening. However, the term “main enemy” was used by Muhyiddin on Saturday in a speech at Bersatu’s sixth anniversary celebration.
Takiyuddin said a statement using that label would be inappropriate and unreasonable if the party labelled as “the main enemy” was a consensus partner in a coalition government.
PAS and Bersatu are partners, together with BN and several other parties in the coalition government led by Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is an Umno vice-president.
In response to Muhyiddin’s remark, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has warned Cabinet members from BN that they could be sabotaged as long as the current government included representatives from Bersatu.
Takiyuddin said PAS was confident that only Malay-Muslim political unity could guarantee a stable and fair government for a multi-racial and multi-religious community.
PAS and Umno formed the Muafakat National alliance in 2019 aimed at uniting the Malay-Muslim electorate. However, Umno later abandoned the alliance because of PAS support for Bersatu.
However, PAS has insisted the alliance remains alive and is adamant on working with both Umno and Bersatu at the coming general election, despite the two parties being at loggerheads.
