In a letter dated Sept 20, Nik Abduh wrote to the Kota Bharu municipal council (MPKB) seeking “cooperation” to provide traffic control, waste management services, tables, chairs, and flower decorations for his daughter’s wedding, which took place yesterday.
The DAP chairman said such services from local councils are available to the public for a fee or specified rental rates, however, the PAS leader did not offer to pay any fees or rental rates in his letter.
“Nik Abduh’s request for cooperation from MPKB gives rise to disturbing questions of abuse of power when Nik Abduh used his official letterhead as Bachok MP,” Lim said in a statement.
“Nik Abduh should explain what he meant by requesting cooperation from MPKB for his daughter’s wedding.
“There is no need for Nik Abduh to use his official letterhead and status of Bachok MP to seek MPKB’s cooperation for a private family event not related to his public duty to his voters.”
Lim said that while MPKB president Rosnazli Amin confirmed receiving the request for cooperation, he did not state whether MPKB had approved the request, nor if there was any payment made.
“This only makes the matter even more intriguing,” he added.
Apart from investigating Nik Abduh, Lim said MACC should look into raiding MPKB to see whether it is trying to cover up the “cooperation” provided by MPKB as requested by Nik Abduh.
Lim said this was especially important to show that MACC does not practice double standards.
This comes as MACC raided the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) headquarters on Monday and arrested two MBSA officials.
A Sinar Harian report said a PKR lawmaker, who wished to remain anonymous, believed the raid was in connection with a flood mitigation project.
