ALOR GAJAH:
A group of foreign factory workers travelling in a factory bus were injured when the brakes failed and the bus went down a 50m-deep ravine.

“On its way down, the bus got stuck to a tree. The workers were pulled out of the bus through the windows that had to be broken,” said Abu Bakar Katain, director of Melaka fire and rescue department.

Thirteen workers and the bus driver were seriously injured while 25 others sustained minor injuries.

Abu Bakar said the brakes failed just after the bus arrived at the workers’ hostel in Jalan Simpang Gading-Kesang Pajak, near here. “It began moving forward for about 150m before sliding down the ravine,” he said.

He said the workers, in their 20s and 30s, were employed by a factory in Batu Berendam.
