
He said the state government is steadfast in supporting the new law and will not reject its implementation.
“The state government has never disregarded the importance of the anti-hopping law. On the contrary, it will follow due process and the right legal channels in this matter to safeguard democracy in Johor,” he said on Twitter.
He said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong will consult with the sultan or the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, as the case may be, before assenting to Section 6 of the Constitution (Amendment) (No.3) Act 2022.
Once the enactment is enforceable at state level, the state government will amend its constitution to be in line with the anti-hopping provisions.
In July, the Dewan Rakyat unanimously passed the historic anti-hopping bill through a bloc vote.
A total of 209 MPs voted in favour of the bill. Eleven MPs were absent when the voting took place.
The tabling of the anti-hopping bill is one of the key conditions of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Pakatan Harapan.
