Sheikh Fahmi Sheikh Jaafar, 59, said if the allegations were true, the police must take action against those involved.
“But if the allegation is false, then action must also be taken against those who spread such rumours,” he told the media outside the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters (IPD).
Sheikh Fahmi had earlier lodged the report accompanied by his lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali of Pejuang.
Earlier this week, a message had made the rounds on social media alleging that Najib’s cell in the Kajang prison complex had been renovated.
The viral message also claimed there were plans to have Najib transferred to the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital (HRC) to allow easier access to VVIP facilities.
The prisons department confirmed that Najib was transferred to the HRC on Monday after being referred by Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL). Today, HRC announced that the Pekan MP has been given a clean bill of health and can return to prison.
Both the prisons department and health minister Khairy Jamaluddin had on separate occasions denied claims the former prime minister was getting special treatment be it in prison or while in hospital.
Yesterday, Umno’s former Sungai Rapat assemblyman Hamidah Osman also lodged a police report over the rumours, saying it downplayed Najib’s health issues and gave the impression he was faking his illness.
