Najib Razak was admitted to HKL last week after his blood pressure experienced 'fluctuations', his lawyer said

The prisons department says Najib Razak will be sent back to Kajang prison to continue serving his sentence after he gets clearance from the specialists at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital or Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
PETALING JAYA:
Former prime minister Najib Razak was transferred to the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital (HRC) for treatment and observation on Monday, says the prisons department.

It said Najib was transferred to HRC after being referred by the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

“He will be sent back to Kajang prison to (continue) serving his sentence after he gets clearance from the specialists at HRC or HKL,” it said in a statement.

Najib was admitted to HKL last week after his blood pressure experienced “fluctuations”, his lawyer, Shafee Abdullah, said.

The prisons department said the Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered for Najib to be taken to the hospital for treatment on Sept 12.

It said Najib was sent to HKL for specialist treatment in line with Section 37 of the Prisons Act as well as the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (Mandela Rules).

It said its duty is to ensure the well-being of inmates is taken care of, which includes providing medical treatment as advised by government health officers.

Najib began serving his 12-year jail sentence on Aug 23 after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and sentence in his SRC International case.
