Sultan Abdullah’s special six-day visit is part of an official invitation from the UK government, starting today, and he was accompanied by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
As part of the special visit, the King and Queen will attend a reception ceremony with King Charles III on Sunday and the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday at Westminster Abbey.
Sultan Abdullah is also scheduled to hold meetings with several foreign heads of state while in the UK.
Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland on Sept 8. She was England’s longest-reigning monarch, having ruled since 1952.
Her body is now lying in state at the Palace of Westminster until the state funeral at Westminster Abbey on Monday.
She was the second longest reigning monarch in European history after King Louis XIV of France.
The King and Queen met Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace on Dec 13, 2019, where they attended a luncheon that was held in conjunction with their visit to England.
Sultan Abdullah has been friends with King Charles III for more than four decades and played polo together during their youth at various levels of international tournaments.
Sultan Abdullah previously ordered that the Pahang state flag be flown at half-mast for three consecutive days from Sept 10 as a mark of respect for the Queen.
