Acryl’s statement comes in the wake of claims by Tom Wright and Bradley Hope, authors of the Billion Dollar Whale: The Man Who Fooled Wall Street, Hollywood, and the World, that Jho Low was spotted in Shanghai Disneyland in 2019.
“Until now, efforts to trace Jho Low are still actively being carried out and all information received on his whereabouts in other countries have been checked for verification, including with the respective authorities,” he said in a statement.
He said so far, no Interpol member countries had confirmed Jho Low’s presence within their territories.
An Interpol Red Notice for Jho Low was approved and issued in 2018.
“We remain committed to ensure Jho Low’s arrest so that he will be brought to justice,” said the IGP.
Yesterday, Malay Mail reported Wright and Hope’s claims that Jho Low had been using proxies, including his wife Jesselyn Chuan, to open bank accounts and join a posh yacht club in Hong Kong.
In an episode of “Finding Jho Low” on their YouTube channel, dubbed “Project Brazen”, Hope said Chuan had been the main conduit for Low’s activities as her name was allegedly found in a lot of bills related to her husband.
Following former prime minister Najib Razak’s incarceration after losing his SRC International appeal in the Federal Court on Aug 23, Hope launched a new search on social media for the fugitive businessman.
Jho Low, who has been charged in Malaysia and the US over allegations that he orchestrated the theft of US$4.5 billion from state fund 1MDB, is believed to be in Macau, although Beijing has denied protecting the fugitive financier.
Earlier, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng urged the government to double down on efforts to catch Jho Low.
He said it was manifestly unfair and a travesty of justice that Jho Low, his family and associates connected with the scandal were allowed to roam free while Najib has had his day in court.
