Senior fire officer Asmiza Zaini said Chua Kok Wah, 62, was climbing with his family when he was believed to have suffered shortness of breath before collapsing about 3km from the foot of the mountain.
She said the state operations centre received a distress call at 10.11am and dispatched seven personnel from the Kulai fire and rescue station to the scene.
She said Chua had been carried down to the guard’s post at the foot of the mountain by members of the public before the firemen arrived.
“The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by health officials,” she added in a statement.
Kulai police chief Tok Beng Yeow confirmed receiving a report on the incident.
