Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this pay rise will be given to civil servants in the Grade 11 to Grade 56 categories.
He said this would mean that a Grade 11 civil servant, for example, would receive a salary bump of RM180 next year, instead of just RM80.
Ismail’s announcement drew cheers and applause from the civil servants when he addressed them at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre this morning.
Previously, Cuepacs president Adnan Mat urged Putrajaya to raise the salaries of civil servants before Parliament is dissolved or risk facing street protests by them.
Adnan had said that proposals to raise the salaries of those from Grade 19 to Grade 29 had been made to the Public Services Department (JPA) countless times, but no action had been taken.
Ismail also announced that civil servants will be allowed to cash in on 180 unused annual leave days when they retire, an increase of 20 days from 160 previously.
He said this will allow them to keep their leave days for cash awards, giving them more money in hand when they retire.
He also said Putrajaya will be giving an additional five special leave days to teachers who have served in the education ministry for more than 10 years.
It will bring the total special leave days for these teachers to 15 a year, with 500,000 benefiting from this.
He also announced that unrecorded leave will be given to civil servants for the death of siblings or grandparents. Previously, unrecorded leave was only given when a spouse, parent, parent-in-law or child passes away.
He said the government also agreed to set a new “annual salary movement” rate, currently at 3%, adding that JPA will issue a circular on this.
Ismail also announced special aid of RM700 for civil servants in Grade 56 and below, as well as RM350 for pensioners and veterans without pensions. These will also be paid in January.
“Once again, I thank all civil servants for always ensuring that government machinery moves effectively as it implements its policies and aspirations.
“Lastly, I urge the civil servants with me today, whether in the hall or outside or online, to continue giving the best service to our fellow Malaysians,” he said.
