KUALA LUMPUR:
Malaysia’s world No 1 tower runner, Soh Wai Ching, defended his Kolnturm Treppenlauf (Cologne Towerrun) crown with a record performance on Sunday.

The 28-year-old won the overall title by completing 39 floors of 714 steps in three minutes and 17 seconds.

Wai Ching had emerged as the overall champion in the 2021 edition by clocking 3:24s, beating the previous course record set by former world No 1 Christian Riedl of Germany in 2017.

The host country’s Gorge Heimann and Andreas Fruhmann finished second and third, in 3:35s and 3:37s, respectively, according to the official tournament website.

Wai Ching now hopes to win the Zagreb Tower event on Saturday to celebrate Malaysia’s National Day.
