Umno leaders stay up until late ‘on party matters’

Supreme Council member Bung Mokhtar says the meeting, which ended past 11pm, was only about efforts to strengthen the party.

Umno Supreme Council members met until 11.15pm with only party matters discussed, according to Bung Moktar Radin.

Umno leaders met until late tonight to discuss party solidarity to strengthen the party to face the coming general election.

Sabah Umno leader Bung Moktar Radin said other matters discussed were efforts to stabilise the economy and the country.

“We don’t discuss unimportant things, we discussed things to strengthen the party,” he told reporters after the meeting ended past 11pm at Menara Dato Onn.

He said there was no discussion about the date for the general election.
“We did not discuss it, that’s the Prime Minister’s right,” he said.

Party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi chaired the meeting which lasted from 9pm to 11.15pm. Ismail Sabri Yaakob who is prime minister and party vice-president, also attended the meeting.

Party secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said there was no statement issued after the meeting because the media were full of reports on Umno. “Maybe tomorrow,” he said in a Twitter posting.
