BUKIT MERTAJAM:
An unmarried teenage couple will be charged on Tuesday with the kidnapping of a nine-month-old girl in Bukit Tengah, police said.

Penang police chief Shuhaily Mohd Zain said three others arrested together with them – a male friend, the girl’s stepfather and her lover’s mother – have been released on police bail.

“They will be prosecution witnesses,” he told reporters here today after visiting the kidnap victim’s parents at Pangsapuri Idaman in Taman Pauh to check on the baby girl’s condition.

Shuhaily said investigations so far showed that there were no plans to sell the baby to anyone as reported on social media.

The baby’s mother, Farisha Amirah Zainal, 24, said her daughter was in good health when she was found after the kidnapping last Tuesday.

Farisha said she and her husband Rahimi Abdul Malik, 26, were still traumatised by the incident.

The factory worker said she had decided to quit her job to look after her only child for fear that a similar incident might happen again.

She thanked the police for their swift action in arresting the suspects and getting back her daughter.

On Tuesday, Farisha found her baby missing when she went to fetch the baby from a 65-year-old babysitter’s apartment. She was told the babysitter’s 14-year-old granddaughter might have abducted her daughter.

CCTV footage also showed that the girl had left the apartment compound minutes before, at 5.19pm. She was riding a motorcycle without a helmet and holding the baby in one hand, police said.
