KUALA LUMPUR:
The Malaysian army has confirmed that another one of its vehicles broke down during the 2022 National Day parade rehearsal today.

News portals had reported yesterday about a PT-91M Pendekar tank taking part in the celebration parade had come to a stop at the Jalan Damansara exit to KL Sentral here.

According to an army statement today, the PT-91M Pendekar had just finished taking part in the parade and was on its way to the vehicle parking area before stopping suddenly due to engine problems at 10.30am.

It was towed away at 11am to another parking area at the National Museum for repairs.

The second incident occurred today at 11.26am at the National Museum, according to the army statement, Bernama reported.

An armoured car transport vehicle (prime mover) was on its way back to Camp Perdana in Sungai Besi when its engine failed.

Mechanics were dispatched to the location and repaired the vehicle at 12.30pm before it continued its journey.

The army statement said 129 army vehicles were involved in the 2022 National Day parade.

“The Malaysian army apologises over these two incidents,” the statement said.

It said a recovery team, together with the Kembalik (military tow truck), would be on standby to tow any army vehicle that stalls to avoid traffic jams.
