“We have made the calculations, BN can form the government after GE15 if we get these seats,” he said in a Malay Mail report.
Mohamad, or better known as Tok Mat, said 11 of these 16 seats were already held by BN component parties.
He said the “heavy task” of retaining these 11 seats had been given to Perak menteri besar Saarani Mohamad and his team.
Mohamad said BN also aimed to win 36 state seats in Perak, including the 27 currently held by Umno representatives, and form the state government.
“We need to defend the 27 seats and win another nine. If we win all of them, we will have a stable majority in the state assembly,” he said.
Mohamad had earlier launched the Perak BN election machinery at a hotel in Ipoh.
He urged BN members to prioritise winning GE15 by setting aside their misunderstandings and personal interests.
He said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob was waiting for the cue from BN component parties to decide if they were ready for GE15, but there was “no point” for the coalition to face the elections unless it was ready.
“Winning is our only priority. We don’t have any other choice than to win,” he said.
