New Covid-19 cases drop by 6.6%, recoveries up 1.1%

The number of new Covid-19 cases dropped by 6.6% last week to 26,678, from the 28,554 recorded the week before, says health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In his update for the week ending Aug 13, Noor Hisham said the number of Covid-19 patients admitted to public hospitals under Category 1 and 2 increased by 5.3% per 100,000 from the preceding week, while Category 3, 4 and 5 patients rose by 11.4%.

Admissions in quarantine centres went up by 1%.

Overall bed occupancy for non-critical cases increased by 1% while utilisation of intensive care unit (ICU) beds rose by 2%.

Active cases decreased during the week by 5.5% to 62,516.

“Recoveries rose by 1.1% from 28,604 to 28,905,” Noor Hisham said.

“The number of deaths stood at 60, the same as the week before, bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 36,080.”

He said 4,732,502 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the country since January 2020.
