The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, and the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, left today to Turkey on a seven-day state visit.

The special aircraft carrying them took off from KLIA here at about 10am.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his wife were present to send them off. Also present were foreign minister Saifuddin Abdullah, transport minister Wee Ka Siong and Chief Secretary Zuki Ali.

The comptroller of the Royal Household, Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said the state visit was at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

He said the visit had been scheduled for last year, but was postponed because of the Covid-19 epidemic.

He said the last state visit by the King was in August 2019 to Indonesia.

Fadil said Sultan Abdullah is scheduled to meet with Erdogan at the Presidential Palace in Ankara.
