Father and son beaten up at home by 10 men over debt

An argument had taken place with a debt collector, then 10 men arrived and beat up the man and his father, police said.

BALIK PULAU:
Four men have been arrested after a man and his son were assaulted over a debt by a group of men at their home in Kampung Pondok Upeh here yesterday.

Police said the four men, aged 18 to 26, were arrested in raids around Balik Pulau.

A police statement said a debt collector had called at the house in Kampung Pondok Upeh. An argument ensued and he slapped the face of a resident, who is in his 20s.

“While the victim was trying to call 999, more than 10 men arrived and assaulted him and his father, who is in his 50s, using sticks, helmets and metal chairs,” the statement said.

The man and his son suffered bodily injuries and are receiving treatment in hospital.

The four local men arrested are self-employed with no permanent jobs. They will be remanded to assist in investigations.
