KOTA BHARU:
Several students at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Melor in Ketereh, near here, were injured after the school’s water tank burst near a pedestrian pathway today.

Education minister Radzi Jidin said the students had been sent to hospital for further treatment.

He said he was informed of the incident after the oral question-and-answer session at Dewan Negara.

“Let’s all pray that those involved in this incident will recover,” he said in a post on his Facebook today.

Radzi said he had instructed the Kelantan education department to carry out immediate repairs and maintenance work.

He told them to ensure that the facilities and infrastructure at the school were in good condition and safe for use.

Acting Kelantan police chief Zaki Harun said four female students were sent to Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia and another to the Mahligai health centre.

One student was injured in the head and another in the neck. Three others were examined and sent home after they were found to have no injuries.

Zaki said the incident happened during the break time for Forms One to Three.
