
“His remarks are not in line with the discussions held in Wisma Putra (on the matter),” Saifuddin told reporters after a book launch this morning.
Yesterday, Tiong hit out at Pelosi over her recent trip to Taiwan, saying it had undermined the region’s stability while accusing the US of violating the “One China” principle and the three joint communiques between China and the US.
Saifuddin said he stood by the statements of the foreign ministry and Asean to prioritise the region’s peace and stability.
On another matter, the Pahang Bersatu chief declined to comment on rumours of Perikatan Nasional (PN) possibly withdrawing its support for Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“Party coalitions are still a priority for Bersatu as we are focused on maintaining political stability. For Bersatu, coalitions among political parties are still our focus.
“Frankly, everyone wants to win elections, but more than that, it’s the political stability that comes after winning that is important,” he said.
On Wednesday night, the Prime Minister’s Office cancelled a meeting between Bersatu leaders and Ismail that had been scheduled for the following day.
Prior to this, leaders from Bersatu had been pressing the prime minister to honour the agreement to appoint a deputy prime minister from the party.
