8 Perak Warisan divisions believed disbanded in leadership row

Murad Abdullah, a former coordinator of the party’s Beruas division, says the Sabah-based party has lost its direction.

A former Beruas division leader says about 600 members have resigned.
PETALING JAYA:
Eight Warisan divisions in Perak have been disbanded, while some 600 members have quit the party, a former divisional leader said.

The divisions that were disbanded were Parit Buntar, Bagan Serai, Larut, Kuala Kangsar, Sungai Siput, Beruas, Batu Gajah and Teluk Intan, Sinar Harian reported.

A former Beruas divisional leader, Murad Abdullah, said party president Shafie Apdal had appointed an “outsider” as the state chief, calling it a decision which did not go down well with members.

The “outsider” was not identified.

“The current chairman does not have a strong political background to convince us that he is capable of holding the position,” Murad said.

He added that Warisan had lost its direction following Shafie’s statement last month that he would join any coalition that won the next general election.

Murad also predicted that the party would fail to win any seats if they contested.
