DAP MP backs MIC, asks how alleged bankrupt appointed to DBKL board

Lim Lip Eng also wants to know if the politician had gone through the 'relevant checks'.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng says he ‘stands with MIC’ in demanding an explanation on the appointment of the individual to City Hall’s excise licensing board.
PETALING JAYA:
A DAP MP has backed an MIC leader’s call for an explanation on how an alleged bankrupt politician was appointed a member of Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s excise licensing board.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng praised MIC for pushing for answers over the matter, despite how it allegedly involved a member of Bersatu, a party MIC is working with in the government.

“I stand with MIC to urge Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to explain the (politician’s) appointment and terminate it altogether,” he said in a statement.

“I also want to question how the individual managed to go through the relevant checks to be a member of the DBKL board. I hope DBKL can reveal if there are any other appointees or staff who are insolvent yet still serving in DBKL.”

Lim still managed to take a swipe at MIC, asking why the Barisan Nasional component party did not similarly raise its voice over the 1MDB scandal involving former prime minister Najib Razak.

Yesterday, federal territories MIC deputy chief D Pala Kumaran urged DBKL to explain why it appointed the alleged bankrupt individual as a member of the board.

In a Malaysiakini report, he said a search at the insolvency department found that the man was declared bankrupt in January 2021, but was appointed to the board in October.

DBKL’s licensing and business development department director, Khairul Anuar Juri, said City Hall was checking on the matter.
