PUTRAJAYA:
There is a backlog of 72,348 estate distribution cases currently, with the highest number in Kedah, with 13,423 cases, and Selangor, with 10,358.

Deputy energy and natural resources minister Ali Biju said in resolving these cases, the ministry had upgraded the federal land management and estate distribution system.

It had also applied for the appointment of 100 contract staff from the public services department.

Ali said the contract staff, if approved, would be placed in states with a high number of backlog cases.

“The contract appointments are a short-term measure to solve the cases within three months,” he said after speaking at a land administration conference.

Ali said amendments to the Small Estates (Distribution) Act have been proposed to solve problems in the distribution of small estates.
