The Marang MP said the attitude of some Umno leaders had caused “problems” which made it difficult to take the next step in the alliance.
According to Hadi, Umno had previously rejected PAS’ proposal for Bersatu to be included as a member of MN.
“Umno eventually agreed to accept Bersatu after we pressured them to do so. However, when the time came to launch (MN), they (Umno) asked for it to be postponed. So, it wasn’t us who delayed MN. As a result, it still has not been established,” he said.
Hadi added that this was compounded by Umno leaders who decided to reject the leadership of former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, leading to his resignation last August.
Muhyiddin, who is also Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, was forced to step down after some 11 MPs from Umno withdrew their support for him. The whole Cabinet was forced to resign along with him. Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob was then appointed prime minister.
“For the sake of PN’s survival, Muhyiddin resigned as prime minister. This wasn’t easy and neither was accepting a prime minister from Umno,” Hadi said in a speech at the Terengganu PN launch ceremony last night.
He added that while Muhyiddin was prime minister, he had created several policies that benefited Malaysians who were greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“While PN led us through the pandemic and economic crisis – which also affected the whole world – they (Umno) accused us of being unable (to govern).
“The people must know that PN (while governing the country) showed a lot of evidence (of good governance),” he said.
