Selangor deputy police chief S Sasikala Devi said acting on information, they raided a two-storey terrace house in Taman Setia Impian, Kajang, at 6.30pm on Friday and arrested the two suspects, aged 35 and 40.
“The Taiwanese had entered the country as a tourist in April before recruiting a local man to transport the call centre operators they recruited to KLIA.”
Sasikala said the suspect would receive a commission of US$1,000 (RM4,455) for each local recruited to work for the international syndicate that runs the scam call centre.
She added that the syndicate placed job advertisements on social media to lure local citizens keen on securing jobs abroad.
“Every interested local must have a valid passport. They were then sent to the syndicate’s operations in Dubai and Myanmar,” she said.
According to Sasikala, the Taiwanese suspect helped obtain Covid-19 health certificates and flight tickets through a travel agency in Taiwan.
She said police had confiscated 14 Malaysian passports, 10 of which belonged to women, aged 19 to 40.
Also seized were 19 visa approval forms to Myanmar and seven visas to Dubai in the names of different people.
Some of them were scheduled to leave for Myanmar at the end of July, she added.
Police are now trying to identify the local citizens who have already gone abroad.
The two suspects have been remanded for four days until tomorrow.
