KUALA LUMPUR:
Teresa Kok (PH-Seputeh) has demanded that special functions minister Abdul Latiff Ahmad come clean about the prime minister’s official trip to Japan in May, saying he had failed to answer her question on the issue.

Kok said she had written to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Harun to instruct Latiff to answer a question she posed on July 21 about the number of delegates involved in the trip as well as a breakdown of the expenditure.

She said Latiff did not answer her question, but only informed the Dewan Rakyat of the objective and programme of the visit.

“I hope the Speaker can direct the minister to improve upon his reply and provide an answer to my question,” she said at a press conference, adding that the government should be transparent about its expenses.

She said former prime minister Najib Razak always provided her with such answers when asked in the past.

She claimed that Latiff’s “inaccurate” response to her question may be tantamount to a violation of the rules for misleading the House and he may be referred to the Rights and Privileges Committee.

Kok also asked why Latiff did not answer her question but was able to provide a written reply to Chan Foong Hin (PH-Kota Kinabalu), who asked the prime minister about the special envoys’ tasks and expenditure since 2020.

Latiff had told Chan that almost RM1 million had been spent by the four special envoys over the past two years.

The special envoys with ministerial status are PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang (Middle East), Progressive Democratic Party president Tiong King Sing (China), SUPP deputy president Richard Riot Jaem (East Asia), and MIC president S Vigneswaran (South Asia).
