He said these NGOs have been tasked with rehabilitating prostitutes as well as assisting children born out of wedlock to obtain valid birth certificates and other documentation.

“Besides the prostitution taking place, young couples living together is another common problem in the Chow Kit area.

“We also found that there are children (born out of wedlock) who do not know who their fathers are and they are also homeless,” HarakahDaily quoted him as saying.

He added that if these children did not receive help, they would face problems in society or be forced into a life of crime.

Idris said he had also ordered Jawi to continue monitoring all 4D gaming shops in areas under its jurisdiction.

“We found that only 3% of the customers at these premises were Muslims. Officers from Jawi detained them and advised them against patronising such shops,” he added.

Idris said although he no longer had authority over the Islamic development department (Jakim), as it is now under the purview of the Malay Rulers, he would continue to push for action for any offences against Islam.
