Friends panic after 2 Rohingya boys drown in river

Firemen say the boys had gone swimming with eight others but the friends did not tell anyone when the boys drowned.

PETALING JAYA:
Eight boys who went swimming with two Rohingya boys panicked and did not tell anyone when the two boys drowned in Sungai Danga near Kampung Bakar Batu here yesterday.

Larkin fire and rescue commander Riduan Akhyar said the bodies of the two boys were recovered today. The victims were identified as Mahmood, 11, and Nojumullah Bibir Ahmad, 14.

“It is understood that these two victims along with eight other friends were bathing in the river at 2pm yesterday.

“When the boys were believed to have drowned, their friends panicked and kept quiet.

“When the two boys did not return home, their father looked for their friends and when pressed, they said that the boys had drowned while bathing,” he said, according to Berita Harian.

Riduan said the bodies of the victims were handed over to the police for further action.
