‘Broomstick abuse’ child to be placed in welfare centre

The girl, 4, is now recovering at a hospital.

The four-year-old girl was allegedly beaten with a broomstick for not eating her meals at a house in Beranang, Selangor.
ALOR SETAR:
A four-year-old girl allegedly abused by her foster mother will be placed in the care of the welfare department, says women, family and community development minister Rina Harun.

She said the girl, who is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, would be placed at the care centre until the trial on her case had been disposed of.

“What is important now is that we want to make sure the child continues to be in good health after she is allowed to leave the hospital,” she said when asked about the girl here today.

Recently, a 27-second video went viral showing a woman beating a girl, believed to be her four-year-old foster child, with a broomstick, allegedly because the child refused to eat.

Meanwhile, Rina, in thanking those who reported the incident, hoped the general public would always be concerned about such cases and told them to lodge a report if they saw it happening around them.

They could also contact Talian Kasih via the toll-free line 15999, she said.
