PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is probing whether there is an element of corruption in the Musang King durian farm project in Gunung Inas in Kedah following claims that it is partly to blame for the recent floods in Baling.

Kedah MACC director Shaharom Nizam Abd Manap said no one had come forward and lodged an official report to the anti-graft agency so far.

“We have conducted a check and investigation to identify the possible offence under the jurisdiction of MACC.

“If there are offences committed under the jurisdiction of other authorities, MACC will refer the matter to the relevant authorities,” he said, according to a Sinar Harian report.

He added that MACC would meet with other authorities to identify the possible offence.

Shaharom Nizam also urged those with information on corruption related to the project to come forward.

The floods in Baling on Monday led to the death of three members of a family, with hundreds of victims evacuated to temporary relief centres.

Two days later, Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Md Nor stressed that he had no personal interest in the Musang King durian farm project

He said the order to stop cultivation was issued in July 2020, two months after he became menteri besar, and it also involved instructions for vegetation replanting to cover the ground.
