Comedy club bans woman performer over controversial video

PETALING JAYA:
The comedy club that featured a woman who is now being probed for insulting Islam said it banned her from the venue immediately after her stand-up performance.

Crackhouse Comedy Club KL has also said it banned the woman’s partner.

In a brief statement, the club said it strongly condemned the contents of the now viral video which showed a person allegedly insulting Islam during an open mic show at the club’s premises.

The club, based in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, also said it lodged a police report on the matter.

The 54-second long video, which went viral on social media, features a woman wearing a headscarf and baju kurung who claimed she had memorised most parts of the Quran, before she removed her attire to reveal a blouse and mini skirt.

The federal territories Islamic religious department (Jawi) said it has begun an investigation into the matter while the classified criminal investigation unit at Bukit Aman is investigating the video clip for promoting religious enmity.
