Putrajaya also announces new ceiling price for eggs in the peninsula, with Grade A eggs to sell at RM0.45 each.

PETALING JAYA:
The government has announced the new ceiling price for chicken, with prices capped at RM9.40 per kg from Friday.

Currently, standard whole chickens are capped at RM8.90 per kg.

Agriculture and food industries minister Ronald Kiandee also announced the new ceiling price for chicken eggs in the peninsula. It will be set at:

  • Grade A eggs: RM0.45 each
  • Grade B eggs: RM0.43 each
  • Grade C eggs: RM0.41 each

Kiandee said Putrajaya would be allocating around RM369.5 million for subsidies with this new ceiling price. He did not say when the ceiling price would expire.

He pointed out that the rising prices of goods was not unique to Malaysia, adding that it was occurring globally due to supply chain disruptions, climate change, and geopolitical conflicts.

“However, the government will do all it can to set price control mechanisms to ensure that Malaysians are not burdened by the cost of living,” he said in a statement.

Previously, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced an increase in the Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM) cash aid, in view of the removal of certain subsidies as well as the rising cost of goods.

Eligible B40 recipients will receive an additional RM100 per household while singles will get an extra RM50. Ismail said the government has allocated an additional RM630 million for this.

Finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz had said the allocation for the BKM scheme would come up to a total of RM8 billion following the additional cash assistance.
