PETALING JAYA:
Penang police arrested a man after he allegedly assaulted a traffic cop who was attempting to issue him a summons.

In a statement, Barat Daya district police chief Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the incident took place on June 27 after the suspect was stopped along Jalan Tun Dr Awang for allegedly using his mobile phone while driving.

The suspect, however, was unhappy and disobeyed orders not to record the incident on his mobile phone.

The police officer then attempted to arrest the suspect and seize his phone, and this led to a scuffle.

A video clip of the incident subsequently went viral on social media.

“The suspect has been arrested and will be remanded until June 30.”

Rizal said the police officer had seized the suspect’s phone.

He said the suspect was being investigated for assaulting a public servant and preventing them from carrying out their duties as well as for failing to comply with orders from the police.
