Selangor BN didn’t sack Isham, says Noh Omar

State Umno leader says Isham Jalil's removal was because he had been wrongly appointed to a post that did not exist in Barisan Nasional.

Noh Omar (right) says he made a mistake about Isham Jalil’s post because Umno has an information chief’s post but not Barisan Nasional.
PETALING JAYA:
Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar has denied that Isham Jalil was dropped or terminated from the state party leadership, but said he had made an error in appointing Isham to a party position that does not exist.

He said Isham should not have been named as information chief of Selangor Barisan Nasional. Instead, he should have been appointed as state BN communications director.

“He was not dropped, his appointment was wrong … wrongly appointed. The position of state BN information chief is not in the BN constitution,” Noh said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.

“In the Umno constitution, there is an information chief. My mistake, we didn’t even notice before. Apparently at the central BN level there is a communications director.”

Isham said on June 7 that he had been informed that he was no longer Selangor BN information chief as there was no such position in the coalition’s constitution. Isham was appointed in May 2020.

On Friday, he was appointed to the Umno Supreme Council to replace Pasir Salak division chief Tajuddin Abdul Rahman who was removed earlier that day. Isham was sworn in at a meeting of the Supreme Council that evening.
