Perling state assemblyman Liew Chin Tong of DAP said the state government must highlight investments that generate local jobs especially those that will pay at least two-thirds of wages in Singapore.
It should create a conducive atmosphere to hook Johoreans now making a living in Singapore to return and work in Johor.
The state government must also ensure that investments in Johor will benefit the local industry through the “clustering effect” so that investors could build “synergies with local industries”.
“It is the duty and responsibility of the government to avoid competition between foreign investors and local industries,” he said in response to the state government’s plans announced last week to register RM260 billion in GDP by 2030.
Onn Hafiz Ghazi must explain how his government plans to achieve the target within eight years, and what policies it intends to implement, Liew said.
Liew also questioned what measures would be taken by the state government to ensure a fair and equitable distribution of economic revenue.
He said economic management was not only limited to generating growth. “Resilience or resilience in the economy and economic security are also very important and should not be ignored.”
