4-year-old in critical condition with high amount of drugs in body

Kelantan police say it is not known if the child was fed the methamphetamine or had consumed it himself.

Kelantan police have arrested the boy’s uncle who tested positive for methamphetamine.
PETALING JAYA:
A four-year-old boy is in critical condition and undergoing treatment in a hospital in Kelantan after being found with a high amount of methamphetamine in his body.

Kelantan acting police chief Zaki Harun said the boy from Kampung Sri Bintang in Kuala Krai was admitted to Hospital Kuala Krai at 5am yesterday by his mother before police were alerted, Harian Metro reported.

He said the boy was later transferred to Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II and remained in critical condition.

Police are still waiting for further reports from the hospital.

Zaki said the boy’s uncle was believed to have brought him to an undisclosed location on Saturday, though it was not known if he was fed any drugs or had consumed it himself after seeing it around.

“The boy’s 30-year-old uncle was arrested last night and admitted bringing his nephew to the location. However, he denied that he fed him any drugs,” he said.

He said the uncle, who had three records for drug-related offences, tested positive for methamphetamine.

He will be remanded today to assist in investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which deals with neglect or exposing a child to danger so as to cause physical injury.

Any person guilty of the offence under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act shall be liable to a fine of not more than RM50,000, or imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both, upon conviction.
