KUALA LUMPUR:
Singer and actress Adibah Noor died in hospital tonight after a battle with ovarian cancer. She was 51.

Her death was confirmed by fellow artiste friends on social media, among them Emylia Rosnaida Abdul Hamid.

Adibah made her mark in show business as an MC, voiceover artist and advertising talent from 1995. She has acted in films such as Sepet and Gubra and also took part in the theatre and musicals.

Singer and actress Ani Mayuni said Adibah had asked friends in the entertainment fraternity to keep her illness private.

“She told us not to reveal that she was in pain,” she said, adding that Adibah’s health deteriorated further after participating in the Gegar Vaganza singing competition.

“Just before the shooting of the GV Raya edition, she began getting fevers off and on and she was warded for quite a long time. We thought it might be from Covid-19, but only when I asked her personally did she reveal that she had cancer and had just undergone an operation,” said Ani.

Actress Dynas Mokhtar paid tribute to Adibah as “fun, caring and kind-hearted with the most beautiful voice”.

Adibah was the singer and lyricist of the hit song Terlalu Istimewa in 2005, composed as a heartfelt tribute to the little girl who was murdered in a pedophilia criminal case.

She also won awards for Best Song, Best Ballad and Best Vocal at the Anugerah Juara Lagu competition in 2006.

She also acted in the films Sepet and Mukhsin and was also known for various television commercials and as a presenter for Suria FM.

Before going into show business, she had been an English teacher, translator for corporate companies and an “ambassador” for the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.
