Police said the man, in his 20s, who is the girl’s neighbour, was arrested at about 8.50pm in Jalan Kampung Bunut Payung, Kota Bharu.

Her mother said in a police report that she suspected her daughter had gone out with the man on his motorcycle before she was raped, Berita Harian reported.

Kota Bharu police chief Rosdi Daud said the mother had stated that she noticed her daughter had been out of the home for some time before arriving back just before 8pm.

He said the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and has two drug-related offences on his record. He is being held in remand for five days.
