PETALING JAYA:
The transport ministry has announced the appointment of three commissioners to the Malaysia Aviation Commission (Mavcom).

Transport minister Wee Ka Siong said Long See Wool had been reappointed effective March 1, 2022 and his term will end on Feb 28, 2025.

He also named two newly-appointed commissioners, Tan Kor Mee and Wan Kamaruzaman Wan Ahmad whose term will run from June 8, 2022 to June 7, 2025.

“I want to reassure everyone that Mavcom’s operations and administration by the commission’s experienced professionals will continue unabated,” he said in a statement.

This comes after the three-year tenures of commissioners Long, Mah Weng Kwai and Fauziah Yaacob had ended at the end of February. They were all appointed on March 1, 2019.

Last week questions were raised over the transport ministry’s failure to appoint new commissioners for the past few months.

According to an aviation source, Mavcom had not been able to carry out its duties properly due to the ministry’s delay in making the appointments.
