2023 budget to focus on 4 key areas, says ministry

The finance ministry says the areas are: governance, public service delivery, disaster risk management and public health.

Non-governmental organisations and civil society will be involved in social programmes.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The government will enhance four key areas in the 2023 federal budget – governance, public service delivery, disaster risk management and strengthening the resilience of public health.

The finance ministry, in a pre-budget statement today, said the government will continue to transform the delivery of public services to be more efficient and effective in meeting the needs of the people.

There would be greater public-private collaboration including making use of non-governmental organisations and civil society to support the delivery of social programmes.

For disaster risk management, proper integrated early warning systems will be put in place, and flood mitigation projects implemented in high-risk areas.

Attention will be given to strengthen the government’s early response measures and coordination in times of natural disasters such as floods and landslides.

Primary health will be put at the forefront of healthcare, with more robust wellness programmes and disease prevention through community health.

“Poor clinics will be upgraded and the government will focus on the improvement of buildings and health facilities as well as the adaptation of new technologies and precision medicine.”

The government will also look into healthcare for the elderly, and strengthen its public health function in disease surveillance and crisis preparedness.

The national health system will be made more efficient through extensive digitisation of health information, with data sharing and service integration between various providers.

“The people will be able to experience continuity of health services with complete information when getting services from various facilities,” the ministry said.

Efforts to carry out the National Anti-Corruption Plan will continue, with six priority areas namely political governance, public sector administration, public procurement, legal and judicial, law enforcement and corporate governance.
