Mahfuz, the Pokok Sena MP, said that while former Pandan MP Rafizi is known for rejecting the “big tent” approach, it needs to be PKR’s official policy.
The “big-tent” approach championed by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim is aimed at getting all opposition parties under a single bloc to face Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next general election (GE15).
However, Rafizi is against this approach, citing PH’s fall from federal power during the Sheraton Move in 2020 as an example of how a coalition can be betrayed by its component members.
“It is important for (Rafizi to) sit with the PH presidential council members to forge a clear direction for the coalition,” Mahfuz said.
He called for unity within PH to be enhanced in view of the change in PKR’s leadership following its recently concluded party elections.
He also said Amanah hoped that PKR’s new leadership would strengthen PH and help it to recapture Putrajaya.
“We can’t wait any longer to recapture Putrajaya. We need to do it at GE15,” he added.
Meanwhile, DAP central committee member Ronnie Liu hopes that as PKR deputy president, Rafizi will strengthen ties with other component parties in PH and make the coalition stronger.
“I believe that Rafizi has always prioritised PH’s political struggle and he will enhance ties with DAP and Amanah for the sake of the people,” Liu told FMT.
“PH is currently in quite a weak position following recent losses in state elections. It needs a leader like Rafizi who is full of spirit and ideas.”
