First batch of foreign plantation workers to arrive tonight

The Indonesians are the first intake after recruitment was halted due to the pandemic.

The government has agreed to fast-track the recruitment of 32,000 foreign workers to Malaysia.
PETALING JAYA:
The first batch of foreign plantation workers will arrive tonight after a halt in labour intake due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The workers from Indonesia are scheduled to arrive at 8.10pm at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

They will be welcomed by human resources minister M Saravanan and Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia Hermono.

In September last year, the plantation industries and commodities ministry and the human resources ministry had agreed to fast-track the recruitment of 32,000 foreign workers to Malaysia.

Plantation industries and commodities minister Zuraida Kamaruddin had previously said the workers were expected to arrive in May and June under a special government quota.
