New Covid-19 cases drop by 4.1%

There was also a dip in hospital admissions last week compared to a week before.

PETALING JAYA:
The number of new Covid-19 cases dropped last week by 4.1% to 13,076 from 13,630 recorded a week before, said health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Noor Hisham said the dip in cases during the epidemiological week from May 22 to 28 also saw a drop in the number of patients admitted to public hospitals and quarantine centres.

The number of those admitted to these public health facilities dropped by 10% per population of 100,000 compared to the preceding week.

Overall bed occupancy for non-critical cases has not changed, while utilisation of intensive care unit (ICU) beds rose by 17%.

A total of 4,502,579 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the country, with 25,360 active cases.

“Recoveries increased by 4.2% from 15,278 to 15,925, and the cumulative total of recovered patients is 4,441,702.

“The number of deaths dropped by 34.5% (29 cases to 19 cases), bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 35,660,” he added in a statement.
